Sarah Cagas, MSW

Office Manager

Sarah Cagas is passionate about combining a holistic, advocacy-driven framework and her managerial, administrative experience in her role as Select Counseling’s Office Manager.

Education and Experience

While completing her Bachelor of Social Work from McGill University in Montréal, Quebec, Sarah worked closely with urban populations experiencing homelessness, the on-campus Indigenous education office, a downtown Indigenous resource center, older adults in long-term care facilities, student parents, and caregivers of older adults.

Her experience as a student social worker and her interest in how social services acquire and distribute resources to its workers and clients encouraged her to pursue further learning in policy and social service administration.

At the University of Toronto, Sarah received her Master’s in Social Work, with a special concentration in Human Services Management and Leadership. Under direct supervision of the Executive and Managing Directors, Sarah worked at a downtown community-based social service agency with diverse immigrant populations, facilitating and overseeing the creation and delivery of service programs.

The majority of her undergraduate research focused on the experience of comfort women in wartime and the resulting intergenerational personal and familial trauma. In her graduate studies, Sarah’s research and extracurricular interests focused on anti-human trafficking efforts, both internationally and within Indigenous Canadian communities.

In between her studies, Sarah worked as a hearing reporter for disability benefits cases at the Office of Hearing Operations in Baltimore.

Other Interests

Sarah enjoys investing in her local communities, understanding how her faith informs her social work practice, exploring new cities, running, photographing with 35mm film, reading too many books at one time, watching hockey (#GoHabsGo), and investing too much hope into her fantasy sports teams.

During the week, she also cares for her energetic and highly expressive two-year-old niece; on the weekends, she works at and enjoys being behind the bar at a local, family-owned cafe in the Ellicott City area.
